Nethack will not run after upgrade #110

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install inethack 1.0
2. Play a game and exit in the middle
3. Update to 1.1
4. Try to start a game

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to either be able to continue my game, or to be told that I can't and
then to be
allowed to start a new one.

Instead it tells me that checkpoints were not enabled in the game, that it
can't restore it, that
it can't initialize, and then to tell a wizard. And repeats this every time I
try to restore the
game. If I elect not to restore, it just quits.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

You probably have to erase it prior to install. The old save name format
changed slightly which is
probably causing this.

I had this issue as well, but after erasing and re-installing, it went away.

Issue 109 has been merged into this issue.

The official statement is that 1.0 saves are incompatible with 1.1, so upgrade
doesn't work if you have an 1.0 save. You have to erase your 1.0 in that case.

There's nothing to fix, but I will keep that in mind for 1.3.

I will leave this issue open to minimize future duplicates.
