Remove any duplicates and omissions from message handling (displayPendingMessages) #137

Due to the multi-threaded and asynchronous nature it still happens for
messages to be shown twice (both in-view and message box) or not at all.

This should be solved once and for all, eliminating all race conditions.

I decided to implement a more button instead to avoid race conditions, 
implemented in
r339.
