Meetup goals

I think it would be awesome if we could be explicit in what the Meetup's goal is. That way we know what we are working towards and we can communicate it clearly.

"Support and grow the Elixir programming community in the Greater Victoria area" is good but a little boring!

Also, is there any Erlang being used in this area? Should we be including that group?

I don't know of any places using Erland or Elixir.

I'd be interested in hearing Erlang topics as well.

Good question about the goals though. I'm not sure the best way to phrase it but I think it would be a good goals to assist those wanting to learn Elixir and helping them grow their Elixir skills by answering questions, providing feedback, providing opportunties to present Elixir (or related like Erlang) topics.

That's also a bit broad but mostly just a brain dump at the moment :)

First, thanks for organizing this!

From my perspective, there are a few things that I think this group could accomplish:

• Evangelism – raising awareness/adoption within local companies and teams
• Knowledge sharing – best practices, common problems, etc.
• Community – this isn't specific to Elixir, but there's different paradigm within the Elixir community (similarly with Rails) around monoliths vs micro-services

As far as local adoption, I know that there's production Elixir at OneFeather (where I work), Pixel Union (where I used to work), and Metalab has previously written Elixir, but not sure if they've got anyone doing that right now.

I am going to make a dedicated issue for reaching out to these companies and letting them know about this fine group's existence.

Another thing I have thought of is that this would be a great place to find people for collaborating on projects.
