Wellness: Animal fact mode #1284

Open JonasKruckenberg opened 1 year ago

JonasKruckenberg commented 1 year ago

Clear and concise description of the problem

Sometimes the flood of news, or drama can be very overwhelming.

Suggested solution

First pioneered (to my knowledge) by the podcast "lions led by donkeys" is the occasional use of cute animal facts to break up the endless stream of upsetting stories.

I propose adding an "Cute Animal Fact" toggle that will, once enabled add short facts about animals to the users timeline in random intervals.

Alternative

Not having cute animal facts

Additional context

As very scientific proof of the modes effectiveness here’s a picture of a puppy in a cup: pexels-pixabay-39317

This is too cute ❤️

Given that there are many possible streams of beautiful content and that some may work better than others for different people, maybe this feature should instead be implemented as hints to follow automated accounts sharing this kind of uplifting content?

We could have a section in the Wellness category that lists some of these accounts with a handy follow button?

I love the idea of adding these to the Wellness category, and I nominate @TinyForests@botsin.space for the list.

@JonasKruckenberg I think we all can just follow tags or bot accounts I for example follow https://elk.zone/mas.to/tags/fractal or https://elk.zone/mas.to/tags/astronomy and therefore get my kind of wellness into my timeline

Adding something like automated elk controlled posts as wellness into the folks timelines is like opening the gates for ads to me 😱

So yes the idea is funny, but has it potential to set the world on fire 🔥

Maybe show top 5 https://elk.zone/mas.to/explore/tags in a widget in the right empty space
