Hello sjvudp,
Some programs select profiles by file name, others by the profile description page, a few show both name and description. If you examine my profile file names and the profile descriptions, they actually match. If you focus on the file name, all the information you need for choosing a profile is right there, for example "sRGB-elle-V4-g10.icc" tells you the primaries are from the sRGB color space, that "elle" made the profile, that it's a V4 profile rather than a V2 profile, and that the profile TRC (tone response/reproduction curve) is "g10" (for my profiles "g10" in the file name/description means the TRC is gamma=1.0, "srgbtrc" means the sRGB color space TRC, "g22" means "gamma=2.2", and so on).
If you want more information about the individual profiles, see the web page I link to in the "About" section of this repository: https://github.com/ellelstone/elles_icc_profiles - look at the right column under the word "ABOUT", where there is a link to this web page:

I suppose I could upload a copy of the html file from my website to the profile folder. But the information already is readily available at the link given above.
Best, Elle
I think the profiles directory could benefit from a text file that describes the individual profiles. I know that there's a lot of information inside those profiles, but most programs select profiles by file name, so you need to know what you select before.
