Dustwalker (and other) Assassins #988

I've coordinated a few nationgen games, currently I have three running, and I allowed dustwalkers because if I recall correctly feedback was wanted on them, Well, here's some feedback. Dustwalker Assassins are INSANELY good. 1 commander point means 2 per turn from an upgraded fort, and these things can kill pretty much anything they go up against in the game they're in, without any gear. Their high MR means that priests can't banish them before they die. Their high strength means they can kill anything their size, and things a lot bigger than them. I'm happy to have these in games, but as far as I can tell, they need to cost a lot more than 70 gold, and potentially be 2 RP. I've also had players see other things, like sidhe assassins with glamour and 4 attacks. I'm not sure if it's possible, but it seems that if an assassin has any special abilities like being a dustwalker, glamour, etc, it should have its gold cost really boosted. image Another player found this. At least it costs a bit more, but 4 strong attacks with glamour is very strong. The Dustwalker is still stronger ungeared in my opinion thanks to higher HP, ST, and the net. Maybe nets shouldn't be given to assassins? image

Thanks for the feedback. The dustwalkers are problematic in general but I suppose they can be fixed by making the assassins punitively expensive and maybe take extra recruitment points.

I had no idea the program even produces mounted assassins. That may need to be looked into. Riding with a tiger to an assassination doesn't even sound particularly inconspicuous.

Hey, tigers can stalk their prey, or something. I'd personally give it a negative assassin rating, but still allow mounted assassins. At more expense of course.

It would actually be neat if you could somehow sensibly make it so that in assassination attempts the assassin was on foot and had a tiger companion.

Sadly, I don't think it is sensibly possible.

I'm pretty sure Sidhe are the only ones with mounted scout poses. The easy fix there would be to make those scout/spy/not-assassin poses.

In general, a passable solution might just be to up the cost for their assassins, and add a sanity check that slaps either RP2 or cap-only on high-priced assassins. There's vanilla precedent in Empoisoners.
