AFAIK not officially, however e.g. MissedIt 
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.igecelabs.android.MissedIt) 
is able to do so - I think they read it from the status bar.

A third-party developer would have to build support for this; this is out of 
scope for the core app.

Hi,

I've just implemented this as an extension. Sadly, WhatsApp does not expose an 
API and therefore requires you to enable a service in accessibility settings 
for it to work. Please check it out:
