I suppose the above change was acceptable to the ESS developers and/or users.
Here were some other possible editings.
Maybe "Customizable variables", "Configuration variables", or "User options"?

roxygen2 is customized by the variables in the customization group ``Ess
Roxy''. Customizables include the roxygen2 prefix, use of folding
to toggle visibility of roxygen2 entries and the roxygen2 template.
$
Since "customized by the variables" was used just before, I guess
"Customizables" can be replaced by "These" :-)
This was only opened as there was no Issue or PR associated with the patch, to include its content in the repository record.
