In principle I’ve seen this should work, but I fear it might be unpredictable. We may just have to try, which is the aim of the sprint.

A very initial exploration of WPML+WP for search.

Searching fusion

We'd need to adapt the search template, but that should be fine.

For ACF content the search works but a snippet/excerpt isn't being shown.

I've tried using the default WP theme and the behaviour is the same.

I also didn't see any helpful options in https://dev-science-in-school.pantheonsite.io/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=acfbs_admin_page

I did see that this plugin may be of some help https://wordpress.org/plugins/relevanssi/

Conclusions:

1. The ACF+WPML search does work
2. There are some cosmetic things to be sorted

Enabling the Relevanssi plugin gives the expected functionality with ACF snippets being rendered.

It also gives easy access to things like "boosting" and weights along with stopwords, highlights, etc

As always performance will be something to watch for, but I think this plugin is worth further investigation.
