configure error line 2433: syntax error near unexpected token `m4' #9

Closed muyinliu closed 10 years ago

muyinliu commented 10 years ago

After autogen.sh without any warning or error,

fsw# ./configure
./configure: line 2433: syntax error near unexpected token `m4'
./configure: line 2433: `AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIRS(m4)'

OS: CentOS release 5.8 (Final) x86_64 Autoreconf: autoreconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.69

emcrisostomo commented 10 years ago

@muyinliu, are you sure:

With no further clues, I guess you're trying to execute configure.ac, which is not an executable file. The AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIRS macro is contained in configure.ac and it's expanded when configure is created: that is, configure will never contain it literally.

Cheers, -- Enrico

That's weird indeed, @muyinliu. Can you send me the configure file?

@muyinliu, I believe your fsw source and build directory is broken somehow. I guess you did it, but could you please clone the repository again and start from fresh? I can't reproduce this issue.

muyinliu commented 10 years ago

OK. I clone again, and something new appear: fsw# ./autogen.sh configure.ac:11: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIRS If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow. See the Autoconf documentation. autoreconf: /usr/local/bin/autoconf failed with exit status: 1

emcrisostomo commented 10 years ago

Cool, that confirms that you're missing the AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIRS macro, which was added by automake in version 1.13, IIRC. Can you please confirm your automake installation is older?

If it is, you could either:

AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIR is provided by autoconf, but it's a configuration I haven't tried so I don't know whether it will configure fine or not.

Upgrading automake is very easy: if you don't want to change the system-wide automake version, you can just install an upgraded one into your home directory and set your PATH accordingly when building fsw.

Cheers, -- Enrico

muyinliu commented 10 years ago

After upgrade automaker from 1.9.6 to 1.14.1, ./autogen.sh without any error or warning. But ./configure, it says: configure: error: *** A compiler with support for C++11 language features is required. It's that means my gcc 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-54) is too old? Here is part of the messages while ./configure: checking dependency style of g++... gcc3 checking whether g++ supports C++11 features by default... no checking whether g++ supports C++11 features with -std=c++11... no checking whether g++ supports C++11 features with -std=c++0x... no configure: error: *\ A compiler with support for C++11 language features is required.

emcrisostomo commented 10 years ago

Yes @muyinliu, it means you need a recent C++ compiler. You can install the latest GCC or CLang compiler using the package manager of your distribution.
