This patch fixes up some of the Apps functionality which was partially broken (at least for me, specifically in the case of navigating to the Apps page, away from the Apps page, and then back to the Apps page).
Relevant fixes are split up into commits with descriptions, to make it easier to merge some and not others if desired.
