Hi everyone.

I've converted @jhollist thoughts on the intro into an introduction. Before I merge I wanted to see if anyone had any thought or suggestions. I'd love any feedback.

I think one thing we should agree on and make consistent throughout is whether we are going to consider 'data' as a plural or singular noun. Some people feel very strongly about this one way or another, and at the very least we need to choose one and be consistent, since I think currently it differs between sections.

@naupaka agreed on picking a tense and sticking to it. I have been conditioned to the plural use, but the more I think about it I am not sure I agree. Especially in the case of this manuscript where we are referring to a singular collective noun.

So, I vote for singular.

Plus we get to be on the same side as Nate Silver and Five Thirty Eight

Singular/plural and past/present tense are easy to clean up in the final editing pass - right now, I think it's more important to get the ideas laid out so that editing can start.
