Progress has been slow and halting in the former Yugoslavia. We have formed a group, which has been invited to the repository, and we have begun deciding on a time to meet outside of class.

We also found our main English-language source. We plan to speak to a professor from the Slavic department about finding some B/C/S language sources for those in the group who are competent in the language, but we got snowed out of class Wednesday.

This is the source we (and by we I mean Emma) found: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/36091?msg=welcome_stranger

This project has potential, but it could benefit from a more precise research question. Will you be analyzing the relations between characters of different genders or simply making observations about the portrayal of each gender considered separately? If the former, what types of relations will you be interested in? If the latter, what features of the portrayals will you be interested in? Also, are you only interested in the treatment of gender within the folklore or also in how that treatment relates to real, historical Yugoslavian attitudes toward gender?
