Is there a way to turn on RTX HDR when you start a Movie, NVIDIA Recently changed it where RTX HDR can only be turned on if its ON in Windows Settings. #38

Which means you have to HDR constantly on which i a thing i wouldn't do since Windows looks really bad in it.

I'm not sure if programs can change it themselves but WinKey+Alt+B can toggle it for you, instead of needing to go through windows settings app etc.

this turns on HDR on all dispalys which i would not want. Since my monitor HDR is horrible.

Why cant we apply the same concept as when playing HDR content. This is how it works when HDR is detected it does HDR when MPC quits it turns it off. This already works. Why not just have it FORCE HDR ON even if video is not HDR, Which means it turns HDR in Windows Settings which auto turns Nvidia HDR on too. Profit ?

Would also prefer an option where if

  1. rtx hdr is enabled in renderer sdr video playback will auto turn on hdr mode for screen auto turn on hdr mode and off it when player is closed hdr video playback will auto turn on hdr mode and off it when player is closed (current behaviour if you allow on/off)

  2. rtx hdr is disabled in renderer sdr video playback will keep HDR mode off (current behaviour if you allow on/off). hdr video playback will auto turn on hdr mode and off it when player is closed (current behaviour if you allow on/off) Reason for this is as mentioned above, sdr content (desktop, browser, non video playback stuff etc) just don't look normal in when windows hdr mode is enabled. You can tweak the slider etc to get it looks somewhat right for some content but others will still looks weird.

Another reason is that most TVs nowadays will have 2 different set of saved settings (brightness, contrast, colorspace calibration etc) for SDR and HDR mode, keeping them separate is the best once you have calibrate it for the 2 types.

Mine switches to HDR automatically as I have set the option in the video renderer properties of MPC-BE

I only allow auto switching in full screen mode.
