Statistics and Reporting Features #119

Open libdgg opened 3 years ago

libdgg commented 3 years ago

James would like the following stats: Counter stats (number of plays on a video) broken out by day - tracking traffic over time. Total minutes played (can tell if people watch the whole video all the way through or just parts).

I can not locate any built in status or indicators in the application as-is. I have started a Google Analytics setup to see if we can get stats via Google.

Do we need to create a new gtag.js?

@rotated8 and @libah any thoughts about setting up google analytics for AV Course Reserves. I setup the property in google but it looks like the next step is tagging?

CB will explore how to add google tag to the code.

rotated8 commented 3 years ago

The Google analytics ID can be added to our settings.yml file (e.g https://github.com/emory-libraries/avalon/blob/main/config/settings.yml#L85). I believe this file is not kept in the avalon repo.

libdgg commented 3 years ago

@rotated8 please advise on who can work on the yml file or if there are next steps that may be needed first.

rotated8 commented 3 years ago

@libdgg I can work on the application side, but I'd like to talk to you about the Google Analytics details, and there may be some configuration for terraform as well.

Meeting scheduled on 2/28 to plan any next steps to move this item into operational work.

Solomon, Ann, Collin and Doug met to review. @libah is going to take some next steps (the google ID is in the ticket info above).

The tracking id has been added as a variable and the id added for prod.
