Hello team,

I was doing some searching in journal titles and realized that Library Search does not seem to include 780 fields (used for previous names of periodicals, as periodical titles change, but also when book titles change) in a title search.

Here's the example: The journal Muzuki (https://search.libraries.emory.edu/catalog/9936502122602486) used to be called Ars Nova. When someone finds a citation from Ars Nova, they won't know that the journal is now called Muzuki, and so will need to be able to find the new title only with Ars Nova. The 780 is being picked up in a keyword search, but I'm guessing that when someone is looking for a periodical title in Library Search, they are going to use a title search.

Could we consider adding the 780 field to title searches? I defer to Sofia if she thinks that might be a bad idea (cc'd here)

I also searched for Ars Nova in ejournals A-Z and came up empty, even though we have online access.

Email followup from Emily regarding metadata mapping:

We do actually have a searchable field for former title, but, the mapping identified at that time for that field was MARC 247 (this had been reviewed by the SEND team earlier that fall). The Metadata Subgroup didn’t start up until early 2021 and we were focused primarily on display fields at that time. I’m sure our mapping for the Former Title display field is more up to date than that older one. The display version of Former Title, however, is configured specifically for exact match/hyperlinked searching and is not a good candidate for search.
