Here is a suggested presentation design from an earlier story.
Another possible design?
Another option which shows default forest season dates and cutting hours as well as categorizing by districts and displaying season dates, cutting hours, and any other additional info specific to those areas. Some added disclaimer text at the top as well to inform the user. @cameronwolf is taking a look at the ability to create something similar using markdown.
Apologies I somehow missed this before. I have a few comments. Season dates should be associated with the overall season, not necessarily cutting area open/close dates. I think this design idea looks really nice, especially with the images. For a District that doesn't have cutting areas, they would only have season dates and it should only be listed one time. This story is for the ARNF, so it might be helpful to see the example as it applies to the data on the ARNF.
Thanks for the feedback @ASprinkle . How does this look?
@npage123 thanks for making those changes. I would remove the word "special" In the intro paragraph "Below are the season dates and hours as well as the dates and times for cutting areas on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests". Cutting areas was mentioned twice so I was suggesting a way to minimize it. Open to different ideas there. I need a refresher - Why the "permit sales" dates/times? are they different than the season or cutting areas dates/times? or is it to show that the District sells permits?
@ASprinkle - After talking with the SME's and reviewing the online content last week..they specifically use "special" in the cutting areas to define designated cutting areas that have different times and dates than the rest of the forest. When talking with Nate earlier, I asked him to add that in. (We can remove though) I believe the permit sales in the ARPNF start on Nov 1...and the cutting areas (Elk Creek and Red Feather Lakes) are only open between Dec 2 - Dec 9/10 (or whatever the first 2 weekends in December are and the week in between them). Since the permits are not available to purchase at the special cutting areas, they advise people to purchase before those dates. The rest of the ARNF varies as well...the Sulphur district allows cutting throughout the forest on different dates and times than the Canyon Lakes district...but I am trying to validate those now.
Ahhh interesting, thanks for the perspective @bryanmcfadden Keep it in ("special") then if that's what they want to see. I would might a re-ordering of words though: "Elk Creek special cutting area" or "Special cutting area: Elk Creek" and for the "permit sales" text - are they ever different at the districts than the Season Dates for the Forest?
@ASprinkle @MelissaBraxton @tram Here is the markdown implementation of Nate's mockup. What do y'all think of this section?
Looking good. A couple minor things:
That section looks great. I second @tram comments.
I still wonder about the use of the word "Season" under the special cutting areas. Can we just call it "cutting dates" to match up with the "cutting hours"? This way we maintain the word "season" for the general Christmas tree/holiday season where sales and cutting occurs across those districts.
Thanks for the feedback! I've made these updates. Anything other tweaks needed or are we good to go? @tram @ASprinkle @MelissaBraxton
Am second guessing my design here :) What do people think about removing the horizontal lines between the district names and the special areas and just keeping the one in between the districts? So remove the line under "Sulphur Ranger District" and "Canyon Lakes Ranger District".
Agree with @npage123 that getting rid of 2 of those lines is a good idea. Once that's done, I say ship it!
Great, here is the most recent screenshot with Nate's recommendation.
One small thing: Since the horizontal lines between the district names and the special areas are gone (good idea), it'll be spacing that delineates and groups things. There's more space between the cutting area and the dates/hours than between the district sales dates making it a little confusing. Recommend moving the space from below the cutting area names to above the cutting area names.
@tram Better?
Excellent tweaks! I think this looks great!
👍 Ship it!
@cameronwolf - Some odd things happen to the table when resizing windows from full size to mobile
