This site has some good safety recommendations for tree cutting in Arapaho: https://www.fs.fed.us/r2/recreation/christmas/index-primary-areas.shtml
Flathead safety instructions from: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5402386.pdf
Drive safely and be alert for winter driving conditions. Your vehicle should be equipped with 4-wheel drive, snow tires, chains, and a shovel.
Before you go check the weather forecast and always let someone know where you will be and when you are expected to return.
Forest Service roads that are plowed in the winter may have heavy logging traffic. Stay alert and give log truck and equipment plenty of space.
Park in areas so that traffic can get by safely and do not block gates.
Key safety points from the Mt. Hood video staring Amber here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mthood/passes-permits/forestproducts/?cid=stelprd3793203
Tell a friend where you are going and what time you will be back.
Bring a map of the forest or district.
You can bring a GPS but don't rely on it because it may not be up to date with forest service roads.
Wear warm clothes, hat, clothes that dry quickly. Rain gear.
Tarp to sit on so you don't get wet, and to use to drag your tree out on.
Shovel in case you get stuck
Rope or tie down straps to fasten tree to top of vehicle or back of truck.
Loppers for trimming
hand saw for cutting tree at trunk
Might want to prune branches on bottom of the tree before cutting so you can more easily access the trunk to cut.
After reviewing everything, I recommend eliminating the safety section and combining it into the Planning Your Trip section. Much of the information compiled for safety ... matches (or corresponds to) what we already have in the Planning Your Trip section. This would also dovetail with the finding that users want safety information sprinkled throughout the content instead of highlighted in a single section.
I would strongly encourage graphics that highlight the safety information be added to the Planning Your Trip section (and sprinkled elsewhere through the page). For example, we could have a graphic in 'before you cut' that corresponds to 'don't forget your tarp.' In Planning Your Trip, we could have a graphic that talks about no cell phone coverage. In When To Cut, we might want a graphic about dressing warmly. etc. etc. I believe there's already a pending story about graphics and we can add a task there to ensure that safety is given consideration when developing graphics. (Will - not sure if I'm supposed to add that as a specific task or if that's something someone else does after discussion among the group? Just let me know.)
The Planning Your Trip document is tracked changes for content updates; the Safety Information document is a research document of points that folks either pointed out or were pulled together. (Thanks again Seth!)

@JaneZC in reviewing the planning your trip Redux: Please make sure font style and size is consistent. Remove language/bullets regarding snowmobiles and pets - these bits of information are not consistent across forests. I agree with Jane's recommendation - I think it would be best to have only 1 section Either Planning your Trip, or Safety Information, and I think "Planning Your Trip" sounds more exciting.
Minor changes below to the text.
The "Trip Planning" header should be changed to How to plan your trip (to match the left-hand navigation). Then, delete the second header that says "planning your trip." It is not necessary.
Eliminate the space between the l and (s) in shovel(s).
Add a comma after non-existent in this sentence. "Cell service is spotty, or non-existent in many National Forests."
I have reviewed - it looks good. I thought we were going to take out the word "harvest". I like the description of why you should make a fresh cut when you get home and put your tree in water, but it might be too much detail. - Oh, i see my comment about "places to try" is captured in a different story - right on!
If we want to change "harvest" to "cut" in the title that's fine. Just need to know. We could add it as a task on #93 too.
Some inconsistency in how "rules" are indicated here. Some of the list items in "how to cut" and "how to plan your trip" state actions/items that are prohibited, yet these are not marked as rules.
Indentation on UL under H3 bullets appears inconsistent. (Indentation is greater under "when you cut")
Thick gray horizontal rule at the end of the "how to cut section" appears to be missing.
