Update closes if you hit ctrl-R and the area is open

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. click on the update area to open it
2. Select a tweet from the timeline by clicking on it.
3. Type the shortcut ctrl-R to reply to a person

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected that the person you want to reply to has their username inserted
into the update text box. That happens, but the the update area is closed
and must be re-opened before you can type your reply.
