Hello Kevin,

I saw the e-mail activity and here is a list of around 190 words not recognised by US.

Kind regards,

Marco A.G.Pinto

@biljir care to comment on these words?

I can immediately endorse DVR(s), buttercream and kleptocracy. smartwatch is a rising neologism, it's probably worth adding. The mujah- words are all alternate spellings of mujaheedin (and I'm not sure that's the most accepted spelling). I'm not sure how accepted taskforce is as a single word - a quick search of major American dictionaries did not turn up anyone that accepts it. The names Troilus and Cressida are from Shakespeare I think, and/or perhaps classical mythology. I don't think it would hurt to add them.

And tiramisu is delicious - I'm prejudiced in favor of having that particular dessert recognized.

It is possible that when I have a little more time I might endorse a few more more of these words.

Thanks Alan.

I added your suggestions.

Alan and Kevin,

Please notice that I mentioned that some words may be GB specific.

"taskforce" appears in the Garner's Legal Oxford dictionary (remember I have a gold account):

"taskforce

is increasingly made one word, especially in BrE. That being so, it would be convenient for writers—in BrE and AmE alike—to make it one. E.g.:"

And, several of the names I mentioned were from Greek Mythology, Alan was right.

Kind regards,

Marco A.G.Pinto

I note that the Google books ngram viewer shows that usage of "taskforce" is minuscule compared to "task force".

I've added all the words I am going to from this list. Closing.
