On the Grade by Step view in Teacher Tools, allow for toggling access to each lesson. The teacher, during run-time, may prevent students from accessing particular lessons. Considerations for the future may be included where perhaps an agent may control access to lessons -- although this need not be developed at this time.
For the precise language for the toggle button, we may consider show/hide, lock/unlock, play/pause, etc.
Use cases:
Waiting room. A student logs in to a unit, works on a survey, waits on a certain step until everyone is there, and then they’ll begin the next activity together.
Keep all students in sync as they move from one activity to the next. All students will work on activity together and once the teacher sees that most students have completed it, she will unlock the next activity so the students will start it around the same time.
If some students get too far ahead, we may gate the activity so the rest of the class can catch up.
