@a2: How did you find your place, and were there any unexpected complications?

The flat I ultimately took was formerly rented by a friend of @neonichu's. All of my other applications were rejected in the end. Despite that, I had a relocation agency help me file all the applications in German and to explain extenuating circumstances (such as that I didn't and you won't have a SCHUFA report). I highly recommend Start Relocation-Service. Helen Neumann was my point of contact there.

I can give some help on that, but it's a major PITA.

Mostly going trough wg-gesucht.de and spambombing everything that looks nice enough. There's no point in crafting nicely worded email specifically for each and one ad, since you're probably gonna be writing 50+ (100+ if you're unlucky) of them.

Most will require documents that will be pretty much impossible to acquire if you're not already in germany, but you might get lucky with your landlord.
