I'm creating a new "gameplay" label for these kinds of things and I think this is better for @CivicSam to think through.
For reference, this is the distribution of NPCs with resources in level 1.
Players can get the same view if they use the Astronaut suit.
Thanks Lou. I actually had a student in my class map out the resource for her classmates which was a pretty cool thing in and of itself. I think if a couple of resources were a little closer to the lower right hand corner of the quadrant, students might not feel so lost initially.

The characters with resources are clustered in the upper left hand area of the Forest. Because students don't encounter an NPC with resources earlier, they start to get confused and lost -- they aren't sure what should be done.
