I suggest doing something more in line with the site's style and feel. in a way, this timeline is actually just a past events archive, so I wonder if its best to actually just use the past events page to effectively communicate this information. You can even keep the "past" language and replace what is on the site under each past event with this language to indicate a reflective tone.
