monkeypatched sunspot, may not be needed anymore OR did I clone sunspot, and is monkeypatching sufficient?

I thought you had forked it to fix whatever the issue was?

Yeah, I forked. I need to see if it's still necessary, and if so, better to monkeypatch or fix it proper and submit a pull request.
