HTTP-API support wanted

I just wanted to update a variable by using the http API, but it doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong, or is it not possible yet?

What I tried:

• Using HTTP-API directly: /api/states/sensor., with the usual post data (which work for other integration-sensors)
• Using /api/service/variable.update_sensor, and the data.value, target.entity_id values I use in "Call service" actions...

If that should work right away, an example in the README would be helpful! If you direct me to the corresponding source, I would be willing to create a pull request for adopting the README.

My fault: gave the wrong parameter => Updating via HTTP-API works perfectly
