I have been working on a patch to i3pystatus and I will submit a PR in this repository once the change is included in a numbered solaar release.
As things currently are, the current solaar plugin actually does not work for solaar 1.1.9 and 1.1.10 with some kinds of devices due to the way device numbers are handled: https://github.com/pwr-Solaar/Solaar/issues/2238
