Segmentation Fault - Running from Manjaro #57

Hello there. I'm testing from Manjaro. I compiled and couldn't run the master branch, couldn't start the application. Read the Issues and find this thread Cannot start the application #53 and switch branch to full_remediation, compile and the application run but then closes reporting: zsh: segmentation fault (core dumped) com.github.subhadeepjasu.ensembles

Here is the screenshot a took before the program closes, and I also noticed a black background around the program window.

I'm a musician and really love to test this sofware so I hope this reports helps, so maybr in the future there will be an AUR version of this program.

My LinuxBox:

You need to install the soundfont. Check the readme.

Apart from that I see a bunch of error in Alsa and Gtk theme parser, not sure about those. For good measure, also install the elementary Odin theme. It won't apply on your system by default, but this app will be able to use it.

About your comments:

  1. Installed SoundFont as instructed here: EnsemblesGMSoundfont
  2. Installed the Elementary OS stylesheet (Is this the Odin theme you said?)
  3. Don't know about the alsa error, my system sound is working with no problem. Tested also with jack server running, the ALSA problem keeps showing, so I'm inclined to believe this must be the problem.

Any suggestions on where to keep looking?

That's odd. So according to the dump, the soundfont is still invalid.

If you are cloning the repo, then you will need GitLFS or else the soundfont is corrupted. Alternatively you can download one of the releases from the soundfont repo and install that. I'll just link it here: https://gitlab.com/SubhadeepJasu/ensemblesgmsoundfont/-/archive/v0.0.3/ensemblesgmsoundfont-v0.0.3.tar.gz

As for the alsa error, it could be a problem with the driver, not sure. You can however change the driver used in Ensembles settings.

  1. Well I re-installed the SoundFont with GitLFS and invalid problem fixed
  2. My system has no /dev/dsp. I think that this is not on Manjaro 
    ls /dev/dsp
ls: cannot access '/dev/dsp': No such file or directory

    I don't really know what else to do, 'cause as I said early all audio software works on my system, so I think is this /dev/dsp error Is there anyway to use the software with jack?

I'm going to test on a ubuntu-studio partition and see what happens!!!

Well tiny success at least. You can install pipewire and see if that works. Ill see and find a way to get around this issue.

I will not close this issue unless a permanent solution is found, but hopefully this will work.

Tested with pulseaudio and still getting the error. Didn't test pipewire 'cause don't really use it. My system runs with Jack Server. Tested with and without JackServer running

@rolodoom Can you pull from master and check if the issue still persists? This time you can set driver settings to pulseaudio or jack if alsa has errors. The alsa error is not caused by anything in Ensembles and its an issue with the configuration, so its a bit hard to detect from within the code.

Hello @SubhadeepJasu I stopped compiling and installed the flatpak version from Elementary OS AppCenter. It's working as it should on Manjaro 21.2.6 with Pipewire 0.3.49
