Links within MS Office documents fail to authenticate via SAML IdP

Clicking a link in a Word document (sometimes, always?) results in failed login attempt through SAML IdP.

Open questions:

• Is this happening in all cases from Office documents? @jamesmontalvo3 is pretty sure that has not always been the case.
• Regardless of if the user was already authenticated?

I've ran into this multiple times and did some investigation. You cannot get access to the wiki sites via hyperlink from Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and maybe other MS Office programs. However, Outlook and OneNote are confirmed to work with hyperlinks to the wiki sites. I had an open session in the wiki while accessing the hyperlinks if that is what your second question is asking.

For some extra content, I even tried using VBA code in Word to access the wiki sites and still ran into the same issue.

@adcarbon thanks that's good info. We need to figure out what is different about the requests coming from word docs.
