Shouldn't there be some code in enaml/widgets/label.py to handle the non-toolkit portion of this feature?

This has been implement in a more generic way in the Nucleic repo: https://github.com/nucleic/enaml/blob/master/enaml/widgets/label.py

At this point, this repo is 17 versions behind the Nucleic repo. Continuing to add features to this version will only serve to fragment the community. If you cannot move onto the Nucleic repo, I would suggest keeping these additions private.
