Here is a super basic Blend with Cycles render if you want to just a basic depth... tweak the map range for your 3D object...

How about turning flat into 3D ... with grease pencil?

On iPhone, I believe the depth needs to be inverted.

When I open it in Blender, it doesn't work, see attached screenshot, it says "undefined socket type". I used the latest Blender version 2.79b. blender Never mind, I could create the nodes manually, but still strange that they don't load from your sample file.
