Thanks @amichelotti this looks really good. You are the first person outside of DLS to collaborate on ibek-support.

It looks all good to me, like you have really understood the framework.

I don't know if I have any devices to test this against, I'll take a look because I know we do use modbus devices. Do you happen to have any simulators I can test against?

Regards, giles

At the moment I don't have any modbus simulator, but I'll provide some solution that I need both for beamline example, test pipelines and development of more complex use cases. My objective is also to add more detailed support for ICPDAS modbus modules that are a cost effective solution to provide simple low rate ADC/DAC that we use for temperature sensors, valves... It would be nice to find in ibek support for power supplies models and so on (for instance there are various powersupply that rely on modbus support). I think with a little help from the community we could quickly grow the ibek support in the direction to standardize and have a clean workflow to bring upcoming beamlines to run fully or almost fully inside containers. Regards, Andrea

Merging this now. I'm working on a minor CLI change to ibek support generate-links. When I release it I'll also fix this install.sh so you can pull the update when you next upgrade your ibek version.
