Spam Reports: GMAIL (September) #1014

Open HanaShiho opened 5 months ago

HanaShiho commented 5 months ago

Currently spam complaints made by Gmail users are not visible in our SendGrid reports. Gmail users who marked our email as spam are not unsubscribed from our list, and there is no way of knowing which recipients complained.

However, what Gmail do have is something called Google Postmaster tools. This is a free service that we can set up (the link to it is HERE) by adding a TXT record that they give us to our DNS records. At that point, Gmail will then monitor our sending traffic and over time show us a score of how they deem our reputation. This will give us an idea of how we are doing with Gmail users.

Can we set this up? This task is not tied to a release, and we can revisit when we have the bandwidth.

@HanaShiho we don't want people added to the unsubscribe list who mark us as spam, correct? we would want them added to the spam reports list?

HanaShiho commented 1 week ago

@anthonypetersen we don't want to add them to the unsubscribe list, as that can be confusing when combined with the people who specifically unsubscribe from our email list. @depietrodeanna do you agree?

depietrodeanna commented 1 week ago

Agree @HanaShiho @anthonypetersen

@HanaShiho first paragraph should probably be re-worded where you mention participants being unsubscribed from our list

**Current spam complaints made by Gmail users are not visible in our SendGrid reports. Since Gmail users who marked our email as spam are not documented, there is no way of knowing which recipients complained.

@HanaShiho @jhflorey this product doesn't appear to be FedRAMP'd so I'm not sure we would be allowed to use it

HanaShiho commented 6 days ago

Ah, that's frustrating, especially as I know a lot of the Google cloud services are FedRAMP'd but I guess this one isn't? I don't really know of a workaround for this as Google is pretty awkward---they don't even share this data with Email Software providers to include in their platforms. Thanks for looking into it though!
