Right now the user can only compare by race and/or sex in a pre-defined grid structure. This is leaving a lot of potentially useful comparisons on the table: e.g. by year, by cause, or even by measure.
Perhaps instead of this, the user could map anything they want alongside anything else they want. They would first be shown a default map (all cause, 2018-2022, all race, all sex), but they could add another map to it (either to the side or below) and they would be presented with a pop-up asking for what data they want in the new map.
