Designation is the primary function of this editor at the moment, but it is only determined by color, which is actually against user design principles about accessibility. Color blindness isn't terribly common, but it is common enough that it should be possible to determine the designation type by a means other than color.
Using iconography from Dwarf fortress for things like ramps, stairs, and channeling would make it easier to read and understand.
That being said, it does not appear that the designations are easily extended to this functionality.
