If automatic authentication is slow, the user has the ability to press the login button, causing both manual and automatic authentication. This results in unexpected behaviour.

Issue

If the user initiates manual authentication while automatic authentication is running, the following will happen (in Expense & Pay, and probably other apps):

• While the user tries authenticating manually, the app navigates to releasenotes screen
• The releasenotes screen, which has no releasenotes to display, navigates the user to the root screen
• When the user finishes the manual authentication, the app navigates the user back to releasenotes screen. The releasenotes screen is now completely blank, and has no option to navigate anywhere else

How to reproduce

Prerequisites: This is easier to reproduce on a device without Microsoft Authenticator installed. You should also log in to the app manually and finish onboarding, then close the app completely and wait 90 minutes.

• Open the app and press the log in button quickly while it authenticates you automatically. This can be hard to do, so I suggest you throttle your internet connection somehow while doing this. Throttling can be done in the developer settings.
• Finish the manual authentication flow. While doing so, you should see the app navigating you in the background.
• Once finished with manual authentication, the app should throw you back to a completely blank ReleaseNotes screen. You will be stuck on this screen until you restart the app
• If you fail to press the login button before the app automatically authenticates you, you have to close the app completely and wait 90 minutes before trying again.

• Disable the "Log in" button while the app tries automatic authentication
