Not sure if this is a skill or an idea but after talking to Tim last week and considering we are all working with open source projects I was thinking it might be an idea to include open source as a topic. Perhaps Tim or someone else with good experience running open source projects can run a session on this? I think this would appeal to a lot of geeks and be helpful for leaders of open data projects. What do you think?

Ideas to be covered: Answer for each of the following: what is it, how do we benefit from it, how is it used?

FOI Open data Open knowledge Open source Citizen journalism

@henare brought up the term "civic hacking" at the recent oaf event. I think that should be a real focus: It's not just about lobbying for open data, but actually getting people to do something with it that helps the community some how. Getting people involved and invested in the democratic process/in shaping their community/society.

I think citizen journalism and civic hacking are the two core ideas with open source, open data and other things as sub-ideas?

I think FOI belongs in the skills section: https://github.com/equivalentideas/open-access-event/issues/1

I think FOI might already be there and I agree with it's importance. I'm wanting to sell this to the general public as well as a technical audience. We already have hacks hackers for those already in the know and I do support skills that volunteers as well as leaders can benefit from such as open source.

I agree that open data is important. I was not meaning to rank the ideas, just making notes. I agree with your ranking if you would like to document the event page that way.

A good way to get people engaged and interested might be to ask them what they want and how they see things. Or perhaps this can be one of the workshops or an approach to the workshops to ask people what they want from their participation.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing a debate included about the pros and cons of open source!
