Yes, I'm seeing that to. You're getting a 403 response. We'll need to look into this.
Thanks for responding back so quickly Timothy; it's nice to know it's not my imagination...
Just for my edification, what is a "403" response?

403 means forbidden. Basically the site said you were trying to access something you won't allowed too. This can also happen when the url to something changes.
I'll look into this tonight. Looks like the login json info is missing or changed urls.
Gents... I'm attaching the kodi logfile that was generated when I first saw a problem, before I tried logging out, then back into, PSVue. Unfortunately I don't recall now what kodi reported as the problem (something to the effect that the addon was unable to verify/receive confirmation of my credentials), but perhaps the logfile will assist you with your forensics. Thank you again for looking into this. -mike

Looks like the android_tv device type id is no longer accepted. I changed it to the web3-w id and it seems to authenticate again. Please let me know if there are adverse issues with the change. I would recommend uninstalling and delete the psvue userdata folder before installing update. That way the authentication doesn't try to use any old cookie data.
Hi SnoopyJoe,
I manually deleted the contents under "home/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.psvue" (ubuntu install of kodi), extracted the "plugin.video.psvue-testing.zip" archive contents to that same directory, opened kodi, reset the defaults under "account info" of the psvue addon so that it would ask for my credentials when I launched the addon (which it, and I, did), and I am still getting the error (logfile attached). Am I doing something wrong? Is there another location I should be copying the extracted files to? Your email mentioned the android_tv device type id; I am passing the hdmi output from my PC to my Onkyo receiver, which in turn, passes the signal to the TV (Toshiba). I'm having difficulty seeing how this may be contributing to the issue, but maybe...? Or am I misinterpreting the function of the device type id?
I'm an engineer and not a total linux noob. but I may have missed an essential step.
Thanks for your patience and assistance.

You will need to delete the psvue folder in the userdata folder. That folder stores all the cookie and login info. .Kodi/userdata/plugin.video.psvue
I ensured that the psvue folder under "userdata" was deleted, but after entering my credentials I am still getting the error and am unable to use the addon.
At the risk of inundating you with unnecessary information, here's what I've tried:
This problem is affecting Windows and Linux versions of Kodi where I have logged out of psvue. I have two machines where I have not logged out of psvue and they still work (one running Win7, the other xubuntu). This, I believe, is true only because I have not logged out of psvue on either machine. I have logged out of psvue on my office PC (again, Windows 7) and have not been able to log back in. The same is true with Mint 17.3 running Kodi 17.6; I logged out of psvue on that PC and now cannot get back in. I have verified that there are no issues with my psvue account, plus I created a temporary, new, account (the "free trial" I referred to in an earlier email), and am able to log into, and watch, the web versions of psvue using both accounts. Unfortunately the video quality of the web versions cannot compete with the kodi addon. Nor, for that matter, can my AppleTV steaming box. The kodi psvue addon has superior video quality, and streaming options (using inputstream adaptive). that the other streaming methods do not have. This is why the kodi addon is so important to me.
It seems that the addon recently began "breaking" somewhere between logging out, and then logging back in. It also "feels" like the error reported by kodi depends on whether the dependencies have been updated ("requests" and/or "urlib3" in particular). These are guesses on my part, weakly based on my observations. I do not know if the events are related or even contributing.
I'm including a screenshot of the "Authorization Failed" message, plus its associated log file. I apologize for the lengthy email. I'm hoping something in all of this will be of some help.
Thank you again.

Timothy,
You mentioned you were seeing the logout/login issue with the psvue addon in kodi. Have you seen (and if yes, installed) snoopyjoe's "plugin.video.psvue-testing.zip" and/or "plugin.video.psvue-master.zip" files? Did either work for you? I'm still unable to get the psvue addon to work.
Thanks.

I'll do some more testing before sending another update.
@eracknaphobia, seems the user needs to be logged in for the ssocookie url to work. I can log in from the grant code url but I need to be able to pass the credentials in the headers or payload. I'll work on it tonight and see what I can do.
Still recieving the same error. I think I'm following your instructions correctly, however the plugin.video.psvue folder is not in the userdata folder exactly. My path located in ../userdata/addon_data/
. I'm hoping this was just a typo.

I'm not sure if the request module changed or if Sony changed, but I'm able to login again. Let me implement it in the code and I'll pay something or soon.

Once the final patch is applied, would you mind making it ver. 2019.05.30 so we know when your all finished? Also, Not sure if this is up to you or not, but a lot of people rely on the official kodi repo. Might be a good idea to get the new one in there too.
Hi snoopyjoe,
Are you saying that the addon just began to work for you, or were you using an updated version? If updated, do you have an updated zip file I could try? Nothing has changed on my end; those PC's which I have not logged out of the psvue addon continue to work; those PC's I did logout of will not let me back in (to psvue). I've tried removing and reinstalling the addon from the kodi repository, the "testing" zip file, and the "master" zip file; I still get "psvue error, see logfile for more information".
Thank you for looking into this. I know it's not easy when there are so many variables involved.

snoopyjoe- I had narrowed the offending file down to "settings.xml" under the userdata directory, and copied a known good "setting.xml" file from Windows over to Ubuntu, and the psvue addon began working again in Ubuntu. That is until about 8:30 this morning Pacific Daylight Time. Now, none of the machines where I have the addon installed are working. So I presume you, or someone, has changed something very recently. -mike halverson
I just wanted to confirm that a solution has NOT yet been found for this issue? I'm still unable to log in on any platform besides the first party app or website.
Hi Chris,
I'm a user like you, and I've been feeding snoopyjoe (and others) what I've seen and what I've tried to resolve it, hoping the info will be useful. But I'm thinking the issue goes deeper than originally thought, and it may take time to find a solution. In the meantime I'm using the web app.
Hopefully it's not a problem with Sony...

Is it possible that they're trying to prevent 3rd party app development?
Has this issue been resolved. I'm am trying to test out psvue and hdhomerun to see if I can get to a single interface with all the channels I (I mean my wife) need.
@eracknaphobia, may need your help with this one. I think Sony changed their authorization type but I can't find to what type. I ran out of time over the weekend trying to figure it out.
Snoopyjoe et al,
Are the user credentials verified each time the PSVue addon is launched, or only during login? I ask because I have two PC's (one Win7, the other Xubuntu 18.4) running Kodi Leia, and one PC with Mint 17.3 (Kodi 17.6) where I have not logged out of the addon, and they still work. My observation has been that it is only after logging out, or after a new/clean install of the addon, that the logon verification fails.

The login credentials are cached and only re-authenticated when the add-on gets a 401 error.
Correct. Your session expires when the cookie expires. Then the add-on uses your login to start a new session. So anyone still logged in now should be fine until their session expires. All the URLs are fine and work but the ssocookie URL no longer takes the logins as we're currently passing them.
Logging in else where then sending request to the URLs works perfectly. So all we need to do is figure the new way to send the login information.
Snoopyjoe, when you say "logging in elsewhere" works, does this mean there is a workaround that we can use until a permanent solution is implemented? I can login to psvue several ways, either directly into my account, or watching psvue channels using a web browser, but none of these ways appears to open a backdoor to using kodi and the psvue addon.
If there's a workaround, can you share it?
Thanks.

I was able to get the login partially working. Still running into issues, almost seems like sony has a timeout between login attempts.
That's as far as I got too. We're you able to log in from the ssocookie URL or from the grant code url?
When I first saw this issue, I suspected a problem on Sony's end (I had read conflicting stories on the internet regarding Sony locking an account, and for how long: anywhere from hours to months). So I contacted Sony and asked if I had exceeded the allowable number of active logins and/or devices, and if there was some kind of hold or restriction placed on my account. The answer was "no". I also asked if there was a record in their system regarding which devices were active (I told him that I had an AppleTV, cell phone, and multiple PC's accessing PSVue). My thought being, if I had somehow exceeded the allowable number of devices, I would be able to remove devices no longer in use from their (Sony's) account database. Again, he said no, which I suppose could be true if Sony is only tracking the number of streams actively accessing an account, not the devices themselves.

ssocookie. Seems like there is an additional call needed to validate the device id before logging in, but I'm not certain yet.
So I've narrowed it down to a single cookie. The _abck
cookie must be present and contain ~0~
after the first 32 characters at the ssocookie call in order to successfully login. The problem is this cookie is created in javascript, so getting it to work in python is a bit of a hurdle.
As a work around for the time being you could call this page, which should generate the _abck cookie (no need to login). Then copy that cookie into the ps vue cookies.lwp file and the login should work. If the cookie contains a ~-1~
it will not work. Usually clicking between the text boxes should get it to create a valid cookie.
erachnaphobia-
Thank you for working on this. It's much appreciated.
When I click on the "this page" link below and enter my username and password, I get "An error occurred during communication with the server" and can go no further. So... as a long shot I manually edited the "cookie.lwp" file (using a text editor) to insert a "~0~" in place of the "~-1~", and that didn't work either.
Thoughts?

@mghalverson55 You don't have to login and yeah manually changing the value won't work. The ~0~
is just a way to tell if the cookie is good.
You can use chrome to open the link, then hit F12 to start developer mode, select Application, expand cookies and you should see the _abck value. Double-click the cookie value to highlight it and right-click (ctrl-c) to copy it.
In the cookies.lwp file replace everything between the double quotes with this value:
Set-Cookie3: _abck="PASTE COOKIE VALUE HERE"; path="/"; domain=".sonyentertainmentnetwork.com"; path_spec; domain_dot; secure; expires="2020-06-05 14:02:32Z"; version=0
Ok, got it. My cookies.lwp file had 3 "_abck" entries, two of which were expired. Once I deleted those AND pasted the value copied from the link (thank you for providing directions on how to retrieve it), it worked! Convoluted? Yes, but I don't care. It works! LOL.
One question: does the link _abck value change hourly/daily/whatever? In other words, do I need to go to the link from time to time to retrieve a new value, or just avoid logging out of the addon?
Thanks!

I think I found the answer to my own question: the link shows an_abck expiration date of 5-29-2020. However, according to the link, bm_sz, which is also in the cookies.lwp file, expires today. Is that a concern?

@mghalverson55 Great! I just discovered this last night, so I have not tested the longevity of it. On the plus side the cookie shows that it is valid for 1 year but who knows if sony cuts this short or not. I figured this would be a suitable work around while we work on a proper fix.
The bm_sz shouldn't matter, but again I've done very little testing on this.
Thanks. Works great!
where is the cookie.lwp file located i dont see it in the app data folder
Just signed up for Vue today, when looking at the cookie, it's not the end of the cookie that needs the ~0~, it's about 30 some characters from the beginning. I kept looking at the end of the cookie which had -1~-1~-1, don't do that. After is sunk into my head I had a good cookie, copied just like the instructions above, worked. The kodi cookie file for v18 is at /home/osmc/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.psvue/cookies.lwp
MANY thanks to Mr eracknaphobia for his excellent work!!
I checked in the addon_data folder all i have in there is the settings.xml file
@archeylee Make sure your are under the userdata
folder not the addons
folder.
https://kodi.wiki/view/Userdata
If you are in the userdata folder just try to run the PS Vue addon, it will create the cookies.lwp file even if it fails.
@eracknaphobia I tried that still didnt show up on im on a nvidia shield if that makes a difference.
Same issue, I have old backups of my userdata folder with cookies.lwp, but the latest version does not create the file. I have tried this on windows and nvidia shield.
Great find @eracknaphobia
So after copy/pasting the "_abck" cookie, my "npsso" cookie updated, so it extended its used for 2 more months from today (till August 6). The npsso date is the one the expired for many, that's why they were able to login in some devices and not others, as it stopped renewing after a while.
Can I get to the cookies.lwp file on a unrooted fire tv gen 1 or insignia fire tv edition tv? tried es file manager, but I do not seem to have access.
I have a Sony Bravia Android TV and an nvidia shield, on both devices the only file present in the path /INTERNAL MEMORY/ANDROID/DATA/ORG.XBMC.KODI/FILES/.KODI/USERDATA/ADDON_DATA/PLUGIN.VIDEO.PSVUE/
is settings.xml.
I tried to start the psvue addon to create the cookie file as was mentioned above with no luck. I have hidden files displayed so I know that's not the problem.
Any advice?
So I took an old version of that cookie file I had backed up from over a year ago, added the new _abck cookie into the file as there wasn't one there, and then copied that file to my addon_data folder on my shield. I then got a login failed so I re-entered user/pass in account settings and that did the trick back in business.
-Thanks
VegasChris and gottahavit-
I also did not have the "cookies.lwp" file under "userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.psvue"; only "settings.xml". I found that if I launched kodi and then went into the psvue addon settings, under "account info", and selected "reset device ID", that would create the "cookies.lwp" file, I could then add the updated _abck cookie per eracknaphobia's instructions. (It may have been necessary to first clear my login name and password by setting the "account info" back to its "default"; I don't recall.)
This worked for me in both WIndows and Linux. I can't vouch for other systems but I would expect similar results.

So I took an old version of that cookie file I had backed up from over a year ago, added the new _abck cookie into the file as there wasn't one there, and then copied that file to my addon_data folder on my shield. I then got a login failed so I re-entered user/pass in account settings and that did the trick back in business.
-Thanks

@mghalverson55 That worked like a charm. Thanks.
@eracknaphobia just followed the directions still getting login error
As of approx. 1 week ago, when I sign out of PSVue within Kodi, and then attempt to sign back in, I receive a "PSVue error, check the log for more information". It APPEARS to be concurrent with a recent update of the dependencies, but I am not sure. This issue is affecting both the Windows and Linux versions of Kodi 18.2. Also, if I do NOT sign out of PSVue (I have Kodi and the PSVUE addon installed on multiple computers), I am able to use the addon with no problems. The issue surfaces only after signing out. I contacted Sony and verified that my account is not being blocked or limited in any way (I can access the web version of PSVue, plus my AppleTV streaming box is not experiencing issues). Also, as a test, I created a new, temporary (free trial) PSVue account and attempted to log into it via Kodi and the PSVue addon, and it still failed. Finally, I did a clean install of Kodi and the addon on two PC's, one Windows, the other Linux (Ubuntu), and had the same result. I'm attaching the kodi error log for reference.
This is a great addon, thanks for the help.
Thank you.
