I slightly disagree with the premise that it becomes easier to come up with clues as the game goes on.

People usually give simpler / more obvious clues first out of necessity since the board is so full initially. This means that as the game goes on, your remaining words generally become harder and harder to pair.

I would be fine lowering the total overtime, however.
