Personal wondering:

Is it common-practice to use U+2010 in all text for German?
If so, is there a reference for it?
If so, would be great to add that to the notes under "status" or in the commit message.

Is it common practice for any language? U+002D is commonly used as it is easy to enter on keyboards and usually already looks shorter than the minus sign. I have made the change because I read this: “We prefer to not use U+002D - HYPHEN-MINUS because it is an ambiguous character. Instead, we use U+2010 ‐ HYPHEN or U+2013 – EN DASH as appropriate.” (Which characters?)
