I agree, "factor-smooth interaction" sounds clearer than "fs". Alternatively, we could refer to it as a formal abbreviation (such as FS), but I generally don't like that. My preference would be for "factor-smooth interaction"; I don't think we need to add the term basis in as well.
Sounds reasonable to me!
at the moment we talk about "fs" a lot, I think we should change this to factor-smooth interaction basis or somesuch for clarity?
