With the end of v3 planned for 2023-12-31, this Pull Request exists to fold the v3 maintenance branch into the main branch to signify the end of life.
The goal is primarily to merge the changelogs and remove references to v3 from the main branch.EDIT: Done
Prior to this Pull Request being merged, a final v3 release should be made that replaced the deprecation warning (#872) by a deprecation error and updates the (developer & user) documentation to signal the end of life as well.EDIT: Done
