Group publications by date #23

Is it possible for list of publications to be grouped in the same way as archived posts? For example, I want to upload monthly newsletters, and have them displayed in groups by year; so a "heading" of 2013 followed by 12 publications, then 2012 followed by the next twelve...

The files I'm displaying are PDF sheet music files, and as you can imagine having them display by upload date instead of by name creates a certain confusion.

Thanks for a great plugin, I wanted to chime in about how fine it would be to have a basic shorttag beyond categories for sorting by criteria other than date of upload.
