Some of the exercises are ill-posed.

a. This is a good thing insofar as students need practice dealing with ill-posed problems. Such things are very common in the real world.

b. The problem is, AFAICT the book does not explain how to deal with ill-posed problems. Terms like ill-posed, overdetermined, undetermined, etc. do not appear in the index. (See #181 for a catalog of index-related issues.)
