Release new version #12

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
There have been no changes in SVN for more than a year. So Linux distributions
have started to take patches from SVN... pkg-config file, remove the C++
interface, and other important changes.
Software developers take the version packaged in its distribution and suppose
everyone else has the same... and then software starts to fails in other
distros because not all of them provide the C++ interface and other funny
problems.

If you don't want to continue working in libgme it's OK. But please, release a
last official version so everybody will use it and there will be no
compatibility issues.

you can always fork it, chris. you'd have some support from me as well, since
i'd like some fixes/additions and can contribute patches

I don't see any big problem in the library port of Game_Music_Emu. And I'm in
no way a substitute for Blargg to continue working in the sound chip emulators
(is there any problem with them?).
From what I can see the latest SVN version is as good as the project can be. So
it makes no sense for me to fork it. I only want to use the SVN enhancements
without having cross-distro compatibility problems.

If you fork it, please let me know. But if you want some fixes/additions
probably would be better to ask for commit access in this project.

This can be done. I'm going to poke around a bit first and see what should be
included.

I've packaged libgme 0.6.0 and made a release as of today. It might be a good
idea to search around and see what (if any) the various Linux distros have been
applying for consideration of having them merged back here.

FWIW after updating openSUSE doesn't apply any patch at all.
