Widget position not restored correctly on multi-head Xinerama desktop #277

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Position widgets
2. Log out and log back in

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect the widgets to be restored to the locations where I placed them.
Instead they are placed on the screen which contains the mouse pointer is
located.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Google Gadgets 0.10.5 (ggl-qt) on Fedora Linux 10 (up to date)

Please provide any additional information below.

I have a four-head desktop with the four screens arranged horizontally. I
use Xinerama with X11 configured so that the four screens are treated as
one large 5120x1024 desktop. I'm running Gnome and ggl-qt.

When ggl-qt restarts it does not place the gadgets where I had positioned
them previously, it places them in the upper left of whatever screen
happens to contain the mouse pointer at the moment. The widget size and
other configuration parameters appear to be recalled properly so my config
changes seem to have been saved but ggl-qt seems to be getting confused by
Xinerama and/or my desktop config.

This is, indeed, a very annoying issue.
A similar issue: when placing the sidebar on a screen that doesn't have bars
(my left
screen does not have menu bar or task bar) the google bar does not fill the
complete
monitor.

I agree, every single time I log in I have to move the sidebar to the right of
my right screen.

I use v.0.11.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 64b Desktop.
I don't run my screens via Xinerama though, but TwinView. The problem shows the
same symptoms.

I have the same problem for google stock gadget when I use ggl-gtk.
the gadget got upper after each restarting.

I can see the position is right just when it popped up, but the gadget got
upper after it resized itself.

the problem didn't appear when I use ggl-qt.
