Identify and fix errors in plone.org's error log #38

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
At the moment, plone.org logs a lot of errors that are caused by broken links,
historical references
or broken software.

We need somebody to go through the logs for a period of a few days and identify
common errors
and (if possible) fix them by adding redirects, identify abusive sites to be
blocked, etc.

To complete this task, we expect a report of the most common errors, and you
get bonus brownie
points for helping to actually fix them. :)

I'll give this one a go, we spend two days checking over the logs and reporting
stuff
back to you?

Thanks Martin! I sent this e-mail to Alexander (limi) in order to know how
start the
work:

"I'll start to check over plone.org manually. How you want to work? you will
send to
me the plone.org's error log so that I can check, report, and (why not? ;-) )
fix all
the errors, bad links, referrers or redirects?"

Thanks for the answer.

It's been about two days now, can you please let us know how you're getting on
with
this task? We can extend to deadline by a maximum of another 2 days, but then
we'll
be forced to re-open this task.

If no one else is already doing this, I would like to. Can you tell me where
the logs
are, and if anyone else is already wanting to do this?

Matt,

Who has claimed this task, so? I spoken few days ago with 'limi' and he said
that
bobbocanfly claimed this task.

Can you send us an update about this, so?

Thanks.

I claim this task.

I had claimed the issue #35, but no one is replying to it. Please forward me to
error
log soon so I can get started.

Unfortunately this task is suffering the same problems. We're trying to get in
touch
with the person that suggested it, to no avail.

Okay, I'll check out some other tasks. Keep me posted when you do get a reply

I'm so sorry for dropping the ball on this. Travel + busy times at work, and a
million other reasons you're not
interested in. :)

I have sent giangy an email with a link to the logs. I'll update here if he's
not interested in the task anymore.

He's willing to work on it, but is right now working on a Python task.
According to the rules, I should un-assign
this until he (or another person) has the opportunity to re-claim it.

Yes, but less so on the weekends. :)

I have mailed you a link to a download of the log files. Let me know if you
need anything else, I can also give you
newer log files with more detail — we turned off some of the filtering over
the last few days to make sure
everything is logged.

Hi, sorry I took so long getting back on this. I've checked through the logs,
and the
vast majority of the errors contain the following two messages:

“Plone Debug: The toLocalizedTime script is deprecated and will be removed in
plone
3.5. Use the method of the @@plone view, or the method in the main_template
globals.”

“Plone Debug: The getCurrentURL script is deprecated and will be removed in
plone
3.5. Use the getCurrentURL method of the @@plone view instead.”

I'm not sure exactly how I'd go about to fix these.

Those could quite easily be errors in external products. I'm not sure if you
can see
the tracebacks, but if you can they should give a hint as to what's responsible.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Here are the most common tracebacks from the errors. Is this what you are
looking for?

A lot of those look like they're to do with Poi or PloneSoftwareCenter, two
external
products. I'd say you've identified them, the "brownie points" limi mentions
would
be tracking them down in those products.

Hi, since there is only one day left to claim tasks, could I continue to work
on this
extra part of the task, but go on to claim one more task?

Ok, I'll mark this as complete, any extra work you want to do you can submit
here at
any point before the final deadline passes.
