Weak NVM definitions always resulted in compilation warnings, even if proper override functions were defined (override happens at linking stage).

Added an error code to better reflect the obligation to implement the functions by the user.
Added NVM mocks for unit tests.
Fixed loop variable has narrower type warning
Minor corrections.
