3 weeks ago just realized that this is because there are different recipes available but the first recipe you use to make explosives does not use olumite (which is unlocked by science 3). After unlocking science 3 the option to use olumite becomes available. Maybe have a recipe selection in these cases, or have something to dictate which recipe is more likely to be used (maybe by saying which science tier you have fully researched)
i was using the calculator when i decided to add explosive charges to my factory. The calculator says i need to turn crude olumite into low density olumite and use ignium powder and the actual game uses none of those things. Maybe the data set is out of date?
