google groups: figure out replacement #2

We need to figure out what to use instead of google groups. One suggestion was groups.io. Another variant is some "forum" on the website.

What are other options?

I like groups.io but I have concerns over too many tools, logins, etc. plus I'm concerned that it may not be used, of course I still very much would like to see us get away from google groups.

A forum on the website is a possibility or perhaps just linking to I believe when I looked at discourse the recommendation was to link to a discourse form vs embed and integrate. I think that would be fine so long as we "brand" the forums and perhaps suss out the best way to provide SSO capabilities then that's not a bad solution.

For private group interactions (and possibly public) I'm very interested in topicbox

see #11 also. Maybe we can just replace the whole thing by tickets oriented discussions? ANother way to do it would actuall be having a forum like discourse. Thoughts?

I would like to point the attention to sourcehut.org; they offer easy to use mailing-lists for all their members. This would fit in nicely with the rest of the foundation as a member need an email to sign up in the first place. This solution will have threads, such that people can follow discussions of interest to them, and it will have history build in. If we don't want to host it ourselves we can probably setup a deal with SourceHut themselves.

we decided to test discourse (#36) . Let's keep open this ticket as a meta discussion though.
